The Olympic Games

Sports needs to develop the body and mind. Therefore the sports make strong our body by doing exercises.
Long ago, The Olympic game started in Greece. First it started to honor the god Zeus. The winners got medals made from Olive leaves. At that time only the men participated in these games. But, today both men and women take part in the games.
After sometime the Roman conquered the Greece. Little by little its sacred qualities started to lose and after that the Olympic Games did not hold in about 1500 years. At that time Frenchman Pierre de Coubertin presented to revive the games. He arranged a meeting and pointed out that unity could be develop and bring the world peace. The Olympic Games symbol is the five interlaced rings on a white background. Today the international Olympic committee is bound to continuation and development of the games. To win from a game the player should have discipline, dedication, hard working and talent.

Mr.Kumarathunga Munidasa

He was born in 25^th of July 1887 at Mathara Dikwella District. He had thirteen siblings. Kumarathunga Munidasa was the eighth. His father’s name Mr. Don Abiyes Kumarathunga and Mother’s name is Mrs. Dona Gimara Muthukumarana.

He went to the school. He included the first school name is Dikwella Buddhist School. Then he went to the Mathara Shantha Thomas Kumara Vidyalaya and then he included the Dikwella Watarukanna Pirivena, to learn Pali, Sanskrutha etc. Mr. Kumarathunga Munidasa went to the Colombo training college for two years training for scholarship.

Then he get to first school is Bomriya Dvee Bhasha Vidyalayahad a promotion was School Inspector. He was this service five years and then he retired.

Then he came to the Sinhala Literrary.

He wrote many books. It is many language books. Sinhala, English, Tamil,Pali, Sanskrutha, Greece etc.

5. Nelawilla

6. Ama Wathura

7. Muwadewdawatha

8. Kriya Wiwaranaya etc.

Because, he wrote many books. He was awarded “Viwarana Sakvithi” name.

Kumana

Kumana is a famous bird sanctuary in Sri Lanka. It is situated in the East, close to potuvil. We can see hundreds of varieties of birds here Migrant birds too arrive at Kumana from overseas. Kumana becomes a bird watchers paradise during the season.

Sri Pada

Sri Pada is one of the famous mountains in Sri Lanka. It is situated in the Ratnapura district. This mountain is popularly known in English as Adam’s peak. Pilgrims form all faiths climb this mountain. The four largest rivers, Mahaweli, Kelani, Kalu, Walawe spring from this mountain.

Kohomba tree

The Kohomba tree has a medicinal value. The Tamils call it “Vempu.” The flowering season of the tree is between March and April. Every part of this tastes bitter. It has yellowish green fruits. It is used to make herbal oil. The speed is valuable as an insecticide some use the twigs of this tree as a tooth brush. The green leaves are insect resistant. They are kept in between the pages of books to prevent insects from destroying pages. This tree is considered as one of the most precious trees in the world

My Village

My Village is Koongasthenna. It is very beautiful village. it is situated in Rathnapura district , sambaragamuva province at balangoda area . It has a temple, a school, a post office and many shops. There are mountains around. There are a bout 200 families on my village. Some peoples are living growing paddy fields and tea. I love my village.

Mother Theresa

            Mother Theresa was born in Skipje, Albania, on August 27,1910. Her first name was Agnes Gonxha Begaxhini.
             She was sister in 18 years old and she went to the Calcutta. She was a good sister. She helped for many people. They relived the sufferings of the poor, the sick and dying. She was necessary for their she established an orphanage. Therefore she was included about 3000 sisters in this programmed. Then she made a uniform for these sisters. She described as a “call within a call” to help the desperately poor of India.
            She is our Mother of nursing. She was awarded the first John 23 Peace prize in 1968 by Pope John Paul. She was honoured with the Jawaharlal Nehru Prize for International Understanding in 1972, the Templeton prize in1973, the Albert Schweitzer prize in 1975, the Nobel peace prize in 1979 and India’s high test civilian decoration a year later.
            Mother Theresa was died in 1997 at the age of 87 in Calcutta.

Weligepola

It is believed that Kottimbulwala cave was one of the important places of King Walagamba’s being hidden in this place he has built many stupas and temples and also some arts. The place where sand was taken to build those buildings is called “Weligepola.”

Kottimbulwala

The Pillow which is kept for our Lord Buddha’s head is made of “imbul.” So people call it “Kottimbulwala.”

Handagiriya

              It is believed that King Walagamba’s kingdom was situated there at Handagiriya. To enter this kingdom there are four hotes. They are Panamura, Imbulamura, and Molamure. You could enter this kingdom if only you take those four areas. Because theirs area is consisted of mountains , rocks and slopes.
             It is stated that tooth relic was taken to this area and has been kept in a safety place at Handagiriya. The villagers still believe it.

Hawarigala

There is a huge rock called “Pollamura.” That rock is called Hawarigala. For that also there are very interesting and historical stories. One day King Walagamba and his queen Soma went for bathing and had a rest on that rock. She left for palace. On the way to palace she remembered her “hawari” and it was kept on that rock. The place where the “hawari” is kept called “Hawarigala.”

Lendara

At the door step of cave, a temple was built by queen Soma. The main feature of the Buddha statue here is Lord buddha’s head has been directed to the west. The legend says that there is a tunnel from Lendara to Kottimbulwala. The main entrance to Kottimbulwala is called “Lendara.”

Hatangala

               The place where King Walagamba had his battle is called “Hatanpola.” Later it become “Hatangala.” It is also mentioned in our legendry.

        Tharindu Udayanga
        K.V.Tharindu Udayanga Premarathna who is a students at R/Damahana M.V.
         He studies in Grade 13 Art section. His father is Mr.K.V.Premarathna
         and mother is Mrs.H.W.Pushpa Ranjani. He has two sisters. They are
         K.V.Gagani Premarathna in grade 9 and K.V.Nayani Udeshika in grade 6.
         He studied up to grade 6 at R/Mahawalathenna Vidyalaya and came to
         this school to learn Music. He leant Music and a subject and learn to
         play “Tabla” as a musical instrument.

         He has won many awards through
         his talents. He won the 1st place in All Island Music and Drama
         (Zonal Level) competition under “Tabla” playing in 2003 and 2004.
         And the also won the 3rd place in All Island Music and Drama
        (Province Level) competition under “Tabla” playing in 2003and 2004.
          He has completed his Diploma in music from Bhathkhande Sangeeth
         Vidyapith in Laknow in 2006.He is eagerly getting ready to sit for
        the A/L examination in the year 2008.In addition to that he acts on a
